15<b>Purpose:</b> With growing evidence that inflammation and low muscularity play a role in the survival of cancer patients, we evaluated the prognostic implications of sarcopenia with systemic inflammation in patients who underwent definitive chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for locally advanced head and neck cancer. <b>Materials and Methods:</b> We analyzed 221 patients with head and neck cancer who received definitive CCRT between 2006 and 2015. The skeletal muscle area was measured using a single com
Our data suggest that radiotherapy to the primary tumor was associated with improved OS and BCFFS in metastatic prostate cancer. The results of this study warrant prospective controlled clinical trials of this approach in stage IV prostate cancer patients with limited extent of bone metastasis and good performance status.
Background: To investigate the prognostic value of pre-treatment neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in patients treated with definitive radiotherapy (RT) for head and neck cancer. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 621 patients who received definitive RT for nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal, and laryngeal cancer. An NLR cut-off value of 2.7 was identified using a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, with overall survival (OS) as an endpoint. Results: The 5-year progres
We evaluated the optimal radiotherapy (RT) plan for synchronous bilateral breast cancer (SBBC), especially treatment plans including the regional lymph node (LN) area. This study was conducted using 15 patients with SBBC (5 with small breasts, 5 with large breasts, and 5 who underwent a left total mastectomy). The clinical target volume (CTV) was defined as the volume enveloping the bilateral whole breasts/chest wall and left regional LN area. We established the following plans: 1) volumetric-mo
BACKGROUND: We aimed to determine the patterns of local recurrence after curative resection and reconstruction for oropharyngeal and oral cancers. METHODS: One hundred-fourteen patients with oropharyngeal and oral cancers underwent resection and reconstruction. The local recurrences were classified as "intra-flap" (the recurrent tumor was located in the flap tissue), "marginal" (≤5 mm from the flap anastomosis), and "outside" (in the original tissue and >5 mm from the anastomosis) recurrences. R
106Ru brachytherapy showed favorable outcomes in small choroidal melanomas in Korean patients. Although additional local treatment could improve eye-preservation rate for large tumors, other strategies should be considered for disease control.
We evaluated intracranial failure after hippocampus-avoidance-prophylactic cranial irradiation (HA-PCI) for limited-stage small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). Data of 106 patients who received PCI with 25 Gy were retrospectively reviewed. The patients were divided into two groups based on whether they underwent HA-PCI: the HA-PCI group (n = 48) and the conventional PCI (C-PCI) group (n = 58). Twenty-one patients experienced intracranial failure: 11 and 10 patients in the C-PCI and HA-PCI groups, respe
Trial Registration: Clinical trial registration No. (NCT03273374).
Concurrent intra-arterial chemotherapy and radiotherapy (iA-CCRT) can increase the response rate in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but may cause a higher toxicity. We conducted this Phase I study to investigate the dose-limiting toxicity of iA-CCRT for HCC. In total, 52.5 Gy in 25 fractions was prescribed as planning target volume (PTV) 1 at dose level 1. The dose escalation was 0.2 Gy per fraction and up to 2.5 Gy, with 62.5 Gy at level 3. Concurrent intra-arterial 5-fluorouracil was administe
PurposeDespite the increasing interest in using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in radiation therapy (RT), direct comparisons with the more widely used deep inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) have been limited. This planning study aimed to offer comprehensive geometric and dosimetric evidence by comparing CPAP and DIBH-based RT plans.Materials and MethodsA retrospective data set of 35 patients with left-sided breast cancer with planning computed tomography scans under three breathing cond
