Synovial Fluid Biomarkers for the Diagnosis of Periprosthetic Joint Infection
Yong Seuk Lee, Kyung‐Hoi Koo, Hyun Jung Kim, Shaoqi Tian, Tae-Young Kim, Mitchell Maltenfort, Antonia F. Chen
SJR Q1Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery

BACKGROUND: The search for a single standard reference test for determining periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) through analysis of synovial fluid has yielded numerous biomarkers as potential candidates. The purpose of the present systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of synovial fluid biomarkers and to determine which test has the highest diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) for the diagnosis of PJI. METHODS: An online literature search of the MEDLINE, Embase, and

Jin Goo Kim, Yong Seuk Lee, Tae Soo Bae, Jeong Ku Ha, Dong Hoon Lee, Young Jae Kim, Ho Jong
SJR Q1Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy

PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to evaluate the effect on tibiofemoral contact mechanics of repair of the posterior root of the medial meniscus and the effect of meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) with medial collateral ligament (MCL) release at different flexion angles. METHODS: Ten fresh-frozen human cadaveric knees (five pairs) were used. A digital pressure sensor was inserted by capsulotomy, and experiments were performed serially under the following six conditions, that is, w

Clinical and Second-Look Arthroscopic Evaluation of Repaired Medial Meniscus in Anterior Cruciate Ligament—Reconstructed Knees
Ahn Jin Hwan, Yong Seuk Lee, Jae Chul Yoo, Moon Jong Chang, Kyoung Hwan Koh, Mu Hyun Kim
SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports Medicine

BACKGROUND: Tears of the medial meniscus posterior horn (MMPH) are frequently found in knees with deficient anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs). There are few studies that have evaluated healing of the menisci and the factors associated with healing. HYPOTHESIS: The repaired menisci would show good healing in the knees with reconstructed ACLs, and the healing capacity of the menisci would differ according to the size, type, and location of the tear as well as the age and gender. STUDY DESIGN: Cas

Comparison of Revision Surgery with Primary Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction and Outcome of Revision Surgery between Different Graft Materials
Jin Hwan Ann, Yong Seuk Lee, Hae Chan Ha
SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports Medicine

BACKGROUND: The number of primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions is increasing rapidly; the number of failing grafts and need for revision surgery have also risen. HYPOTHESIS: Revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction will produce similar results to those of primary reconstruction, and there may be different results according to graft materials. STUDY DESIGN: Case control study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: Fifty-nine revision surgeries were performed at 1 institution betw

Second‐Look Arthroscopic Findings After Open‐Wedge High Tibia Osteotomy Focusing on the Posterior Root Tears of the Medial Meniscus
Kyung-Wook Nha, Yong Seuk Lee, Dae-Hee Hwang, Jae Ho Kwon, Dong Ju Chae, Young Jee Park, Jong In Kim
SJR Q1Arthroscopy The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery

PURPOSE: This study examined, at second-look arthroscopy, the results of open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) focusing on root tear of the medial meniscus posterior horn (RTMMP). METHODS: Among 31 consecutive patients who underwent HTO without a meniscectomy or pullout repair for RTMMP, 20 patients were available for second-look arthroscopic evaluation. All patients had medial unicompartmental arthritis. The healing status of the RTMMP was classified as complete, incomplete, and no healing. Th

Yong Seuk Lee, Seow Hui Teo, Jin Hwan Ahn, O-Sung Lee, Seung‐Hoon Lee, Je Ho Lee
SJR Q1Arthroscopy The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery

PURPOSE: To evaluate the surgical treatment of the discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) with long-term follow-up and to search which factors are related to good clinical or radiological outcomes. METHODS: Search was performed using a MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane database, and each of the selected studies was evaluated for methodological quality using a risk of bias (ROB) covering 7 criteria. Clinical and radiological outcomes with more than 5 years of follow-up were evaluated after surgical treatment

Effect of foot rotation on the mechanical axis and correlation between knee and whole leg radiographs
Yong Seuk Lee, Beom Koo Lee, Seung‐Hoon Lee, Hong Gi Park, Deuk Soo Jun, Do Hyun Moon
SJR Q1Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy

PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were (1) to evaluate the foot rotational effects on local and whole leg alignment and (2) to confirm the correlation between local and whole leg alignment. The hypotheses of this study were that (1) the alignment would become varus if the rotation of the foot changes from internal to external rotation, and (2) there would be some correlation between local and whole leg radiographs, and local knee radiographs could then be used indirectly for the assessment of

Natural progress of D-dimer following total joint arthroplasty: a baseline for the diagnosis of the early postoperative infection
Yong Seuk Lee, Young‐Kyun Lee, Seung Bum Han, Chang Hyun Nam, Javad Parvizi, Kyung‐Hoi Koo, Javad Parvizi, Kyung‐Hoi Koo
SJR Q1Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and ResearchOA

BACKGROUND: Early detection followed by prompt intervention is essential for the treatment of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). D-dimer, a fibrin degradation product, characteristically changes rapidly during early postoperative period and has a short half-life. The aim of this prospective study was to measure postoperative change of D-dimer level after joint arthroplasty in conjunction with ESR and CRP. METHODS: ESR, CRP, and D-dimer levels were measured on the day before surgery, postopera

SJR Q1Arthroscopy The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery

PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to evaluate (1) the disparity of detection of lateral hinge fracture (LHF) between postoperative simple radiography and high-resolution computed tomography (CT) and affecting factors of LHF and (2) whether generally recommended postoperative rehabilitation protocols are appropriate according to the type of LHF. METHODS: From 2014 to 2015, patients who underwent primary open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) for isolated medial compartment osteoarthritis

SJR Q1Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy

The objective of our study was to investigate the outcome of an active non-operative treatment of the acute isolated posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury using cylinder cast immobilization and brace with tibial supporter. This study included 17 acute and isolated PCL injuries with two years or more of follow-up for each patient. We applied a cylinder cast immobilization with tibial supporter with full extension of the knee for 6 weeks, and then another 6 weeks of PCL brace with tibial suppor

PURPOSE: The objectives of this study were (1) to evaluate the clinical and radiologic outcomes of open-wedge high tibial osteotomy focusing on patellofemoral alignment and (2) to search for correlation between variables and patellofemoral malalignment. METHODS: A total of 46 knees (46 patients) from 32 females and 14 males who underwent open-wedge high tibial osteotomy were included in this retrospective case series. Outcomes were evaluated using clinical scales and radiologic parameters at the
