15Direct methane conversion into value-added products has become increasingly important. Because of inertness of methane, cleaving the first C–H bond has been very difficult, requiring high reaction temperature on the heterogeneous catalysts. Once the first C–H bond becomes activated, the remaining C–H bonds are successively dissociated on the metal surface, hindering the direct methane conversion into chemicals. Here, a single-atom Rh catalyst dispersed on ZrO 2 surface has been synthesized and u
O activation was attributed to the facile formation of an active copper center with no formation of inactive intermediate species.
Bacterial cellulose nanofiber (BCNF) with high thermal stability produced by an ecofriendly process has emerged as a promising solution to realize safe and sustainable materials in the large-scale battery. However, an understanding of the actual thermal behavior of the BCNF in the full-cell battery has been lacking, and the yield is still limited for commercialization. Here, we report the entire process of BCNF production and battery manufacture. We systematically constructed a strain with the h
We have developed a 24 GHz side-looking vehicle detection radar. A novel signal processing algorithm is developed for speed measurement and size classification of vehicles in multiple lanes. The system has a fixed antenna and FMCW processing module. This paper presents the background theory of operation and shows some measured data using the algorithm.
Bacterial cellulose nanofiber (CNF) is a polymer with a wide range of potential industrial applications. Several Komagataeibacter species, including Komagataeibacter xylinus as a model organism, produce CNF. However, the industrial application of CNF has been hampered by inefficient CNF production, necessitating metabolic engineering for the enhanced CNF production. Here, we present complete genome sequence and a genome-scale metabolic model KxyMBEL1810 of K. xylinus DSM 2325 for metabolic engin
Hydroxyapatite (HAP) is a green catalyst that has a wide range of applications in catalysis due to its high flexibility and multifunctionality. These properties allow HAP to accommodate a large number of catalyst modifications that can selectively improve the catalytic performance in target reactions. To date, many studies have been conducted to elucidate the effect of HAP modification on the catalytic activities for various reactions. However, systematic design strategies for HAP catalysts are
Zr-WOx clusters on WOx/ZrO2 catalysts are known to be active sites for the acid catalyzed reactions, such as dehydration of alcohols and alkane isomerization reactions. However, synthetic methods for producing high density of Zr-WOx clusters with high surface areas are not currently available. Herein, a facile method for preparing mesoporous Zr-WOx/SiO2 is proposed and the effect of Zr/W ratio on its structure and acidity was examined. Results showed that the sequential hydrolysis of zirconium a
This paper proposes a method of edge representation which is more general than the conventional edge representation method. While the localization of conventional edges is considered as the problem of determining its existence at a certain location, that is, either 0 (non-edge) or 1 (an edge point), our representation method defines the location as some measure of plausibility of edges using the fuzzy set theory. Thus, if the location of intensity edges is unclear, or if the intensity function i
The application of Fresnel lenses is often made to the receiving antennas for television and radio by way of the satellite communication, for the astronomical observation and so on. Their advantage lies in structural simplicity and low cost. A typical Fresnel zone plate lens (FZPL) consists of coaxial conductive ring bands separately placed over the surface of a dielectric plate. For the antenna application a receiving horn is provided at the focal point. In our previous work, the experiment was
We investigated the effect of picosecond pulsed laser irradiation on the sheet resistance and microstructure of the silver nanowire films coated on PET substrates. The sheet resistance of the silver nanowire film abruptly increases from ∼102 to ∼108 ohm/square at a certain range of laser power. The sheet resistance of the picosecond laser annealed silver nanowire film strongly depends on the microstructure. The silver nanowires are ablated from the substrate and the surface of the substrate are
