본 연구에서는 최근 대규모 극장의 오리지널 뮤지컬과 라이선스 뮤지컬 공연 중심으로 확대되고 있는 뮤지컬 시장에서 소규모 뮤지컬이 경쟁력을 가지고 활성화되기 위한 전략들에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 소극장 공연의 중심지인 대학로의 공연장 및 뮤지컬의 현황을 살펴보고, 대학로 소극장 뮤지컬의 특징을 창작극 그리고 재상연작을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 현황과 특징에 대한 분석을 바탕으로 대학로 소극장 창작 뮤지컬이 경쟁력을 지니기 위해 필요한 전략들을 도출하였다. 창작뮤지컬의 경우 장기 공연을 통하여 지속적으로 수정되어 작품의 완성도를 높여가는 장점을 강화할 필요가 있다. 로맨틱 코미디 중심의 소재와 형식에서 탈피하여 실험적 소재와 연출방법의 변형을 통한 다양한 콘텐츠의 개발을 제안하였다. 마지막으로 멀티맨을 활용하여 제작비를 절감하고 관객을 수용하는 측면에 대하여 살펴보고 개선점을 제안하였다.

대한민국에 메소드 연기법이 소개된 지 60여년이란 시간이 흘렀다. 그만큼 메소드는 이제 일반 대중들도 알 수 있을 만큼 대중화되었고 메소드 배우라는 꼬리표를 달고 다니는 배우들도 생겨나게 되었다. 하지만 2014년 현재까지도 대한민국에 체계화된 메소드 연기법으로 배우들을 훈련시키는 기관은 극히 드물며 그런 만큼 현장에서 그 연기법을 활용하는 배우들을 찾아보기도 힘들다. 그 이유는어쩌면 연기의 진정성이나 진실을 추구하기 보다는 빠른 시간 안에 안정적인 연기를 보여주길 원하는 대한민국 영화나 드라마 현장의 요구 때문일지도 모른다. 하지만 체계적인 메소드 연기법을 교육받은 배우는 빠른 시간 안에 진정성 있고진실 된 연기를 보여주는 것이 가능하기 때문에 대한민국의 정서에 최적화된 연기법의 체계를 세우는 것이 시급하다고 판단된다. 러시아에는 러시아의 정서에 맞는 연기 시스템을 연구, 개발한 스타니스라브스키가 있었고 그의 시스템을 토대로 미국에서는 미국의 정서와 여건에 맞는연기 메소드를 개발,
