Supplementing with Dietary Astaxanthin Combined with Collagen Hydrolysate Improves Facial Elasticity and Decreases Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 and -12 Expression: A Comparative Study with Placebo

SJR Q3Journal of Medicinal Food

Photoaging accounts for most age-related changes in skin appearance. It has been suggested that both astaxanthin, a potent antioxidant, and collagen hydrolysate can be used as antiaging modalities in photoaged skin. However, there is no clinical study using astaxanthin combined with collagen hydrolysate. We investigated the effects of using a combination of dietary astaxanthin and collagen hydrolysate supplementation on moderately photoaged skin in humans. A total of 44 healthy subjects were rec

Natural course of new-onset urticaria: Results of a 10-year follow-up, nationwide, population-based study
Sang Jun Eun, Jin Yong Lee, D.Y. Kim, Hyun‐Sun Yoon
SJR Q1Allergology InternationalOA

During the 10-year follow-up period, only a small proportion of patients with new-onset urticaria developed chronic urticaria. Remission was achieved in the majority of patients with chronic urticaria regardless of demographic characteristics or accompanying thyroid disease.

Long-term Topical Oestrogen Treatment of Sun-exposed Facial Skin in Post-menopausal Women Does Not Improve Facial Wrinkles or Skin Elasticity, But Induces Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 Expression
Hyun‐Sun Yoon, Se-Rah Lee, Jin Ho Chung
SJR Q1Acta Dermato VenereologicaOA

It is controversial whether treatment with oestrogen stimulates collagen production or accumulation in sun-exposed skin. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of long-term treatment with topical oestrogen on photoaged facial skin, with regard to wrinkle severity, and expression of procollagen and matrix metalloproteinase-1 enzyme. Two groups of 40 post-menopausal women applied either 1 g of 1% oestrone or vehicle cream once daily to the face for 24 weeks. Visiometer R1-R5 values (ski

Effects of reflection and immediate feedback to improve clinical reasoning of medical students in the assessment of dermatologic conditions: a randomised controlled trial
Sungjun Choi, Sohee Oh, Dong Hun Lee, Hyun‐Sun Yoon
SJR Q1BMC Medical EducationOA

BACKGROUND: There are few studies that directly compared different interventions to improve medical students' clinical reasoning for dermatologic conditions. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of adding practice with reflection and immediate feedback on traditional dermatology electives in improving medical students' ability in evaluating skin lesions. METHODS: The participants were fourth-year medical students of Seoul National University College of Medicine, Korea, who were enrolled t

The quality of reporting randomized controlled trials in the dermatology literature in an era where the CONSORT statement is a standard
D.Y. Kim, Hyunsun Park, Soyun Cho, Hyun‐Sun Yoon
SJR Q1British Journal of Dermatology

Several critical items in reporting RCTs, including allocation concealment, similarity of interventions in blinded trials and prospective trial registration, have remained unsatisfactory in the recent dermatology literature.

SJR Q1Journal of the American Heart AssociationOA

Background There is emerging evidence that rosacea, a chronic cutaneous inflammatory disease, is associated with various systemic diseases. However, its association with cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains controversial. We aimed to investigate whether patients with rosacea are at increased risk of developing CVD. Methods and Results This retrospective cohort study from the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort included patients with newly diagnosed rosacea (n=2681) a

SJR Q1Journal of the American Academy of DermatologyOA

BACKGROUND: Limited data exist on managing psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in survivors of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). OBJECTIVE: To investigate the risk of recurrent and new-onset MACEs associated with systemic therapies for psoriasis and PsA. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study using Korean health insurance data (January 2008-October 2021) included patients diagnosed with psoriasis or PsA treated with biologics, nonbiologic systemic therapy, or phototherapy. The prim

Maternal and Perinatal Factors of Importance for Occurrence and Severity of Infantile Haemangioma

SJR Q1Acta Dermato VenereologicaOA

To determine which patient and maternal factors are associated with the occurrence and the severity of infantile haemangioma (IH), a single-centre retrospective observational study was conducted with 96 haemangioma patients and 143 age-matched control babies, born in the same hospital between March 2012 and March 2013. The IH patients were selected according to diagnosis from dermatologists, either consulted from the department of paediatrics or in outpatient setting. Unplanned female children w

Impact of residual skin lesions and previous biologic treatment failure on patient‐reported outcomes in patients with psoriasis receiving biologic treatment
Won Ji Song, Hyun‐Sun Yoon
SJR Q1The Journal of DermatologyOA

Recent advances in biologic treatments have made clear skin a realistic treatment goal for psoriasis. However, clear skin may not uniformly translate to an absence of impact on patients' quality of life. This retrospective observational study aimed to elucidate the factors influencing patient-reported outcomes in patients with psoriasis who have demonstrated successful clinician-reported outcomes on using biologics. A total of 96 patients who have achieved a ≥75% improvement in Psoriasis Area an
