15Etiologies and various treatment modalities regarding anterior openbite are discussed to elucidate the pros and cons of different approaches, with emphasis on understanding of the true nature of anterior openbite. Subjective interpretation in a diagnosis invariably leads into an erroneous description of a malocclusion, which can lead to a disastrous result. Cognizance of the anatomy, histology, physiology, and dynamics of orthodontic mechanotherapy can bring most openbite malocclusions into the
Vaginal MH tends to be detected with UU, and patients carrying both organisms simultaneously had more severe adverse pregnancy outcomes compared to patients in preterm labor or PPROM who were only positive for UU.
OBJECTIVE: To establish reference values for highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) in normal pregnancy and determine whether disease severity could be predicted by serum hsCRP concentration in women with severe pre-eclampsia (PE). METHODS: Blood samples were collected from 25 pregnant women with severe PE and 202 healthy pregnant women who were divided into 4 groups by pregnancy duration. Levels of hsCRP were determined by the immunonephelometric method. Mean arterial pressure, time betwee
We have observed the inconsistent findings from various studies on twin pregnancy outcomes obtained by assisted reproductive technology and spontaneous conception. In most studies, however, the concrete chorionicity, regarded as a confounding factor for predicting the perinatal outcomes of twin pregnancies, has not been determined. The purpose of this study was to compare obstetric and perinatal outcomes of only the dichorionic twin pregnancies according to the methods of conception: spontaneous
PROBLEM: Preeclampsia (PE) is a serious pregnancy complication leading to high maternal, perinatal morbidity, and mortality. We aimed to investigate the clinical effectiveness of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in women with PE and compare this measurement to platelet indices as a diagnostic and prognostic marker of PE. METHOD OF STUDY: A total of 471 healthy pregnant women, 126 women diagnosed with mild PE, and 227 with severe PE were included in this retrospective study. We analyzed PLR
The aim of this study was to determine the likelihood of malignancy in small nodules in the nonprimary lobe in patients with resectable bronchogenic carcinoma. In 141 patients who underwent curative resection of bronchogenic carcinoma and had adequate follow-up CT examinations, the presence of small nodules in the nonprimary lobe preoperatively and change of preexisting nodules, if any, was assessed. The criteria used to determine benignity of a nodule was stability or decrease in size for 24 mo
BACKGROUND: To determine whether the measurement of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-HCG) level in the vaginal washing fluid could be useful for the diagnosis of premature rupture of membranes. METHODS: Totally, 120 pregnant women were enrolled in this study. Subjects were divided into four groups [group I, no preterm labor and term delivery (n = 38); group II, preterm labor and term delivery (n = 12); group III, preterm labor and consequent premature delivery (n = 24); group IV, preterm
Congenital uterine anomalies (CUA) may influence reproductive performance, resulting in adverse pregnancy associated complications. This study aimed to assess the association of CUA subtypes with reproductive, obstetric, and perinatal outcomes. We performed a systematic search of the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane libraries for studies comparing pregnancy outcomes between women with CUA and those with a normal uterus. The random effects model was used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) with a 95%
High mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) is a prototypic alarmin and plays an important role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory process in spontaneous preterm birth. This study was conducted to compare the levels of HMGB1 in amniotic fluid and amnion membranes in women with chorioamnionitis/intra-amniotic inflammation to the levels in healthy controls. We also aimed to elucidate the involvement of microRNA-548 (miR-548) in regulating HMGB1 expression and its function in human amniotic epithelial cells
BACKGROUND: Histological chorioamnionitis (HCA) is related to perinatal morbidity. However, there is no definite diagnostic method for detecting chorioamnionitis before delivery. METHODS: We evaluated whether the delta neutrophil index (DNI) was an effective early marker of HCA in patients with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). We retrospectively evaluated 149 women diagnosed with PPROM (gestational age, 20+0 to 36+6 weeks) at Severance Hospital from January 2013 to December 2014.
A structural design procedure for extended fully thermally coupled distillation columns is proposed and applied to the example quaternary systems of several combinations of relative volatility in order to show the design performance. The procedure gives the optimum structure for a given quaternary separation, and therefore iterative computation encountered in the design using commercial packages is not required. Because of extra degrees of freedom in the design of the columns, various designs ca
