SJR Q1JMIR Medical InformaticsOA

BACKGROUND: Neonatal sepsis is associated with most cases of mortalities and morbidities in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Many studies have developed prediction models for the early diagnosis of bloodstream infections in newborns, but there are limitations to data collection and management because these models are based on high-resolution waveform data. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the feasibility of a prediction model by using noninvasive vital sign data and machin

SJR Q1Neonatology

Background: White matter injury (WMI) is the most common form of brain injury in preterm infants. It could be induced by a systemic inflammatory response in preterm infants. Objectives: We hypothesized that surgical necrotizing enterocolitis (surgNEC) results in more severe WMI than spontaneous intestinal perforation (SIP) on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at term-equivalent age (TEA). Methods:&

BACKGROUND: Nutritional support is critical for preterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). A multidisciplinary nutritional support team (NST) that focuses on providing optimal and individualized nutrition care could be helpful. We conducted a thorough evaluation of clinical and nutritional outcomes in a tertiary NICU following the implementation of an NST. METHODS: This study used a retrospective approach with historical comparisons. Preterm neonates < 30 weeks gestational age o

SJR Q2BMC PediatricsOA

BACKGROUND: Several studies have suggested that adverse neurodevelopment could be induced by systemic inflammation in preterm infants. We aimed to investigate whether preterm infants with systemic inflammation would have impaired neurodevelopment and which biomarkers and neurophysiologic studies during inflammation are associated with poor neurodevelopment. METHODS: This prospective cohort study enrolled infants born before 30 weeks of gestation or with birth weight < 1250 g. Infants were groupe

SJR Q2BMC PediatricsOA

BACKGROUND: Thyroid hormones are critical for growth and brain development during the newborn period and infancy. Because of delayed maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis in preterm infants, thyroid dysfunction is common, and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) elevation is often delayed in preterm infants. The objective of this study was to determine the incidence of thyroid dysfunction requiring levothyroxine treatment and to identify its risk factors in preterm infants. METHODS:

SJR Q2Pediatric Transplantation

The BK virus (BKV) can be reactivated with immunosuppressive treatment in renal allograft recipients, which can result in interstitial nephritis (BKV-associated nephropathy, BKVAN) and lead to renal allograft failure. Recently, leflunomide has been reported in some case series of BKVAN with favorable results. Most studies have included only adult patients, we herein report a pediatric case and include a literature review. The patient was a nine-yr-old female with end-stage renal disease due to h

Abstract The immature preterm kidney is likely to be vulnerable to acute kidney injury (AKI). However, the biomarkers currently used for AKI are not sensitive or specific and are also inadequate for the timely detection of AKI in preterm infants. The objectives of this study were to identify novel urinary biomarkers of AKI using proteomic techniques, and to verify and validate that the candidates can serve as early predictive biomarkers for AKI. In total, 1,810 proteins were identified in the di

BACKGROUND: Severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia often leads to prolonged mechanical ventilation lasting several months. Cyanotic episodes frequently occur in these patients, necessitating long-term sedation and/or intermittent muscle paralysis. Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA) might provide precisely the amount of support that these patients need without sedation. METHODS: We reviewed the medical records of preterm infants who underwent tracheostomy and required mechanical ventilation f
