SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Most videoscopes improved the success rate of double-lumen tube intubation; however, they were time-consuming (except videostylet) and had a higher malposition rate than the direct laryngoscope.

Neuroprotective effects of magnesium l-threonate in a hypoxic zebrafish model

SJR Q2BMC NeuroscienceOA

Abstract Background Hypoxia inhibits the uptake of glutamate (a major neurotransmitter in the brain closely related to cognitive function) into brain cells, and the initial response of cells to cortical hypoxia depends on glutamate. Previous studies have suggested that magnesium may have protective effects against hypoxic injuries. In particular, magnesium l -threonate (MgT) may increase magnesium ion concentrations in the brain better than MgSO 4 and improve cognitive function. Methods We evalu

Efficacy and Safety of Sugammadex for the Reversal of Rocuronium-Induced Neuromuscular Blockade in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

SJR Q2MedicinaOA

Background and Objectives: Sugammadex is widely used in anesthesia to reverse rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade (NMB). In patients with compromised kidney function, most drugs show alteration of their pharmacokinetic profile with reduced clearance. The purpose of this article is to examine the efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and safety of sugammadex in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients receiving general anesthesia, using a systematic review. Materials and Methods: The databases of PubM

Unusual elevation in Entropy but not in PSI during general anesthesia: a case report

SJR Q1BMC AnesthesiologyOA

BACKGROUND: EEG monitoring is useful for determining an adequate level of anesthesia. However it is sometimes interfered by various reasons. We describe a case in which we successfully confirmed the adequate depth of anesthesia by monitoring the patient state index (PSI), which was computed from the SedLine monitor data in Root (Masimo) during general anesthesia. Our case showed unusual elevations in entropy, but not in PSI. CASE PRESENTATION: A 34-year-old woman was scheduled for emergency surg

SJR Q3Journal of International Medical ResearchOA

Objective Emergence agitation (EA) has a multifactorial origin, and the effect of sugammadex on EA has not been established. We investigated the effect of sugammadex on EA incidence and severity. Methods We performed a retrospective study of children aged 1 to 13 years who underwent strabismus surgery. Patients received sugammadex or conventional neuromuscular reversal agents. The primary outcome variables were EA incidence and severity. Secondary outcome variables were postoperative fentanyl us

Effects of propofol or desflurane on post‐operative spirometry in elderly after knee surgery: a double‐blind randomised study

SJR Q2Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica

BACKGROUND: Intravenous or volatile agents reduce respiratory function, which can result in respiratory complications in geriatric patients. We hypothesised that there would be no differences in lung function between anaesthesia established using either drug. METHODS: Elderly patients were randomly assigned to receive either propofol with remifentanil (n = 48) or desflurane (DES) with remifentanil (n = 52) for knee surgery. Spirometry tests including forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1 ), forc

Combined spinal-epidural anesthesia for lumbar discectomy in a patient with asymptomatic severe aortic stenosis: a case report

SJR Q1Korean journal of anesthesiologyOA

The use of neuraxial anesthesia has traditionally been contraindicated in patients with severe aortic stenosis. However, general anesthesia can be riskier than neuraxial anesthesia for severe aortic stenosis patients undergoing spinal surgeries in the prone position as this can cause a major reduction in cardiac output secondary to diminished preload. In addition, general anesthesia, muscle relaxation, and positive-pressure ventilation can decrease venous return and reduce vascular tone, further

The protective effect of hydromorphone to ischemia in rat glial cells

SpringerPlusOA

BACKGROUND: Ischemic insults during operation can cause ischemic-reperfusion injuries in brain as well as memory impairments. Total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) is the preferred anesthetic method in brain surgery, as it utilizes motor evoked potential monitoring. And the use of opioids is common in TIVA. However there are few studies about ischemic protective effect of opioids to glial cells. METHODS: We used mixed cultures of rat glial cells, which were harvested from the brain of 1-day old ra

Comparison of the effects of dexmedetomidine and remifentanil on perioperative hemodynamics and recovery profile of patients undergoing laryngeal microsurgery

SJR Q3MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Laryngeal microsurgery (LMS) causes hemodynamic instability and postoperative agitation, cough, pain, nausea, and vomiting. Moreover, because of a short operation time, it is associated with challenging anesthetic management. The aim of this study was to compare the usefulness of continuous administration of dexmedetomidine and remifentanil in inducing general anesthesia in patients undergoing LMS. METHODS: This is a prospective randomized control design. Continuous intravenous infus

SJR Q2EntropyOA

BACKGROUND: This study compared the correlation of bispectral index (BIS) or entropy with different sevoflurane concentrations between children with and without cerebral palsy (CP) during induction. METHODS: For eighty-two children (40 CP and 42 non-CP children), anesthesia was induced with sevoflurane. BIS and entropy (response entropy and state entropy (RE and SE)) were recorded before and after the induction of anesthesia at end-tidal sevoflurane concentrations of 1-3 vol%. The sedation statu

Acute calcific tendinitis of the shoulder is a well-known condition, but it is rare in the hand or finger. It is often misdiagnosed when it occurs outside the shoulder. We report an unusual case of acute calcific tendinitis of the flexor digitorum superficialis insertion of the 4th finger in a young female martial art athlete after minor trauma history, and discuss with a review of the literature.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of chloral hydrate-based pediatric sedation conducted by non- anesthesiologists. Methods: The design and setting of this study was a single-center retrospective study performed at a tertiary university hospital between July 2012 and May 2013. A total of 519 children were enrolled in this study. We investigated the sedation medication, age of patients and type of diagnostic tests or procedures and evaluated the success rate of sedation, sed
