15BACKGROUND:: Arthroscopic microfracture can effectively treat osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLTs). However, very few studies have reported on symptomatic improvement duration and time when symptomatic improvement ceases. This study aimed to investigate the clinical outcome changes after arthroscopic microfracture in patients with OLT. METHODS:: Among patients who underwent arthroscopic microfracture for OLT, 70 patients were available for follow-up for more than 3 years. Of these, 6 patien
To investigate the functional effects of resveratrol (RSV) on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), we treated MSCs with RSV continuously during ex vivo expansion. MSCs were continuously treated with RSV from passage (P) 0 to P5. A proliferative capacity of RSV-treated MSCs was higher than that of non-treated MSCs and similar with P1-MSCs. Continuous treatment of RSV on MSCs increased the stemness and inhibited the senescence. During chondrogenic differentiation in vitro, RSV-treated MSCs had higher di
INTRODUCTION: Interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) can identify submicroscopic deletions adjacent to the breakpoints of rearrangements undetected by conventional cytogenetics. In this study, the characteristics and frequency of the IgH deletion identified by interphase FISH were investigated in patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). METHODS: The study group included 29 patients with MM and eight patients with CLL. Interphase FISH was performed
Chronic diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a common problem in patients with diabetes and are often difficult to treat. The application of newly developed dressing material in patients with chronic DFUs has been reported to be effective. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of allogeneic keratinocyte treatment for chronic DFUs. We performed weekly allogeneic keratinocyte treatment for up to 12 weeks in 71 patients with intractable DFUs. We investigated healing rate, wound-healin
Soft tissue reaction following metallic debris formation with the use of guided growing rod system has not been previously reported in human. The purpose of this study is to report complications caused by metallosis in a guided growing rod system. A 9-year-old female patient, who underwent treatment for the progressive idiopathic scoliosis (with Cobb's angle of 71°) with the guided growing rod system. Her Cobb's angle was corrected to 13° with the index surgery. During the 5 years postoperative
Background: The purpose of the study was to compare clinical and functional outcomes before and after hyaluronic acid (HA) injections in patients with osteochondral lesions of the talus who experienced a failure of their primary treatment with arthroscopic microfracture surgery. Methods: A total of 40 patients were included in the final study. These patients had received microfracture surgery but continued to experience postoperative pain over an average of 13.0 months (range, 0-81 months) and w
Background: The purpose of the present study was to compare the degree of sesamoid reduction after hallux valgus correction between distal chevron metatarsal osteotomy (DCMO) and S.E.R.I. (simple, effective, rapid, and inexpensive) osteotomy, and to analyze the effects on the recurrence of hallux valgus. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the foot radiographs of 60 feet (30 DCMO and 30 SERI) treated for hallux valgus from August 2013 to July 2017. Radiographic assessments were performed preope
Background . The effective hemostasis after minor debridement in an outpatient clinic is important and essential. This study is aimed at evaluating the hemostatic efficacy and safety of the kaolin-impregnated dressing for diabetic foot ulcer patient who take an anticoagulant. Methods . A prospective, randomized, clinical trial study was performed in twenty-six patients with diabetic foot ulcers who take an anticoagulant requiring minor debridement in an outpatient clinic. Minor debridement and r
The objective was to evaluate the incidence and degree of double-J ureteral stent (DJUS) migration. Additionally, we aimed to investigate the risk factors associated with stent migration in the orthotopic neobladder group. In this retrospective study, 61 consecutive patients were included; 35 patients (45 DJUS placements) underwent radical cystectomy with orthotopic neobladder and 26 patients (35 DJUS placements) underwent urinary bladder without cystectomy between July 2021 and March 2023. All
We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of MR elastography (MRE) using a transpelvic approach. Thirty-one patients who underwent prostate MRE and had a pathological diagnosis were included in this study. MRE was obtained using a passive driver placed at the umbilicus and iliac crests. The shear stiffness, clinical data, and conventional imaging findings of prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were compared. Inter-reader agreements were evaluated using the intraclass coefficient cl
Chronic lateral ankle instability occurs in 10% to 20% of individuals after acute ankle sprain. The management of chronic lateral ankle instability is traditionally conservative treatment in the acute phase. On the other hand, surgical intervention is considered if conservative treatment fails and the symptoms are ongoing. This review focuses on the surgical approaches to treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability, including Broström surgical techniques, with a review of the traditional proc

Oncologic orthopedic surgery stands as one of the primary causes necessitating blood transfusions. In an endeavor to mitigate transfusion requirements, the implementation of patient blood management (PBM) holds significant value. We undertook a retrospective study to juxtapose pre and post-PBM implementation scenarios in the context of treating osteosarcoma through limb salvage surgery in patients' extremities. This study encompasses 25 patients who underwent surgery between 2008 and 2016 at our
Category: Bunion, Midfoot/Forefoot Introduction/Purpose: The identification of factors associated with poor outcomes in patients who have undergone chevron metatarsal osteotomy is helpful for predicting postoperative outcomes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of generalized ligamentous laxity and various clinical risk factors on the radiological and clinical outcomes of chevron osteotomy for hallux valgus. Methods: A total of 135 patients (137 feet) who underwent chevron meta
