15Metabolic pathways in cells must be sufficiently robust to tolerate fluctuations in expression levels and changes in environmental conditions. Perturbations in expression levels may lead to system failure due to the disappearance of a stable steady state. Increasing evidence has suggested that biological networks have evolved such that they are intrinsically robust in their network structure. In this article, we presented Ensemble Modeling for Robustness Analysis (EMRA), which combines a continu
Superimposed NAFLD was associated with a higher HCC risk in CHB patients. However, the association between steatosis per se and HCC risk was not evident after adjustment for metabolic factors.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Long-term antiviral therapy can effectively suppress viral replication and improve clinical outcomes in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), but it cannot eliminate risk of HCC. We investigated the association of metabolic risk factors with the risks of cancer and all-cause mortality in patients with CHB. APPROACH AND RESULTS: This nationwide population-based study from the Korean National Health Insurance Service database consisted of adults with CHB who underwent healt
PURPOSE: Synergistic effect of radiotherapy and immunotherapy for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been reported. This phase I/IIa pilot trial evaluated preliminary efficacy and safety of combination of radioembolization with yttrium-90 microspheres (Y90-radioembolization) and durvalumab in patients with locally advanced unresectable HCC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with Child-Pugh score ≤ 7 and locally advanced HCC, defined as Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage B H
Abstract Background and Aims Studies on differential effect of aspirin therapy on HCC risk across the spectrum of liver diseases are lacking. We investigated the association between aspirin use and risks of HCC, liver‐associated death, and major bleeding in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients with or without cirrhosis. Approach and Results We identified 329,635 eligible adults with CHB from 2007 through 2017, using the Korean National Health Insurance Service database, including patients who rece
The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains of hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major concern. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of combination therapy with entecavir (ETV) plus tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) against MDR HBV. To adjust for differences in baseline characteristics, inverse probability weighting (IPW) using propensity scores for the entire cohort and weighted Cox proportional hazards models were applied. Ninety-three consecutive patients who were treat
Lignin is a polymer in secondary cell walls of plants that is known to have negative impacts on forage digestibility, pulping efficiency, and sugar release from cellulosic biomass. While targeted modifications of different lignin biosynthetic enzymes have permitted the generation of transgenic plants with desirable traits, such as improved digestibility or reduced recalcitrance to saccharification, some of the engineered plants exhibit monomer compositions that are clearly at odds with the expec
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) monotherapy is a therapeutic option for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) variants resistant to lamivudine (LAM). We evaluated the antiviral efficacy and safety of TDF alone compared to those of TDF plus LAM or telbivudine (LdT) combination in patients harboring HBV variants with genotypic resistance to LAM. This multicenter retrospective study included consecutive patients who had LAM-resistant HBV variants and were trea
Although oral nucleos(t)ide analogues can lead to suppression of serum hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA to undetectable levels efficiently, they usually fail to achieve seroclearance of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), which indicates eradication of HBV infection. In this study, the efficacy of therapeutic vaccination in patients with chronic HBV infection was evaluated by comparing to the control patients. Patients who had achieved complete virologic response following oral nucleos(t)ide analogu
Transcription of the dnaA gene from the promoter 1P has been shown to be activated in vitro and in vivo by the binding of IciA protein to two sites on the dnaA promoter region [Lee, Y. S., Kim, H., and Hwang, D. S. (1996) Mol. Microbiol . 19, 389-396; Lee, Y. S., and Hwang, D. S. (1997) J. Biol. Chem. 272, 83-88]. In vitro transcription assays using DNA fragments carrying variable combinations of two IciA binding sites revealed that IciA binding site I (IciA I site), which is located upstream of
