15BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy, safety and achievement of the target hemoglobin level (Hb >or=10 g/dl) in patients with preoperative anemia due to menorrhagia who received intravenous iron sucrose compared with oral iron protein succinylate for anemia management. METHODS: Seventy-six patients with Hb levels <9.0 g/dl who were scheduled to undergo surgical treatment were randomized to receive either intravenous iron sucrose (based on the calculated total iron defici
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Limited treatment options are available for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein thrombosis (PVT). Transarterial radioembolization using Yttrium-90 microspheres is a new treatment modality for HCC with PVT. For this analysis, we compared responses to treatment with radioembolization and with sorafenib. METHODS: We evaluated 32 patients who were part of a multicenter retrospective cohort. All patients had PVT without extrahepatic metastasis and were treat
This paper describes current trends in the prediction of crop pests using machine learning technology. With the advent of data mining, the field of agriculture is also focused on it. Currently, various studies, domestic and overseas, are under progress using machine learning technology, and cases of its utilization are increasing. This paper classifies and introduces SVM (Support Vector Machine), Multiple Linear Regression, Neural Network, and Bayesian Network based techniques, and describes som
Y radioembolization might be a safe and effective treatment modality in intermediate-stage to advanced-stage HCC.
INTRODUCTION: To date, there are few studies dealing with the impact of metabolic syndrome (MS) on female sexual function, and the association between MS and female sexual dysfunction (FSD) in middle- to old-aged women remains unclear. AIM: To evaluate the impact of MS on sexual function in middle- to old-aged women. METHODS: From May 2009 to January 2010, we performed a cross-sectional study of sexually active women (≥ 40 years old) who visited a health-screening clinic. Comprehensive history t
Regular exercise has been proven to prevent hypertension and to help in the management of hypertension. There is a lack of studies examining changes in these issues as a result of Taekwondo training intervention. The aim of the current trial is to identify the effects of a regular Taekwondo (TKD) training program on health-related physical fitness (HRPF), cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, inflammatory factors, and epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) in elderly women with hypertension. To ac
OBJECTIVE: This prospective randomized controlled pilot study aimed to find whether gelatin-thrombin matrix used as a tissue sealant (FloSeal) can prevent the occurrence of pelvic lymphocele in patients with gynecologic cancer who has undergone pelvic lymphadenectomy. METHODS: Each patient, who undergo a laparotomic pelvic lymph node dissection on both sides, was randomly assigned for FloSeal application on 1 side of the pelvis. The other side of the pelvis without any product application being
In spite of substantial progress in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), suboptimal treatment results are frequently seen in the intermediate and advanced stages of HCC. The current staging system indicates that multinodular HCC without vascular invasion needs to be treated by transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and HCC with vascular nvasion or distant metastasis is linked to sorafenib, an an-tiangiogenic therapy. Radioembolization with yttrium-90 ((90)Y) is a recently introduced
AIM: Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a necessary factor in most cases of cervical cancer, but malignant transformation requires the presence of additional cofactors such as pregnancy. Little is known about the effect of pregnancy on genital HPV carriage. We therefore analyzed the prevalence and genotypic patterns of genital HPV infections in normal pregnancies. METHODS: The prevalence of HPV infection was measured in 960 consecutive normal pregnant or post-partum women by HPV-DNA
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prognostic significance of adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy-induced neutropenia with survival in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix. METHODS: Data from 107 patients with stage IB-IIB cervical cancer were retrospectively analyzed. The median follow-up was 37.5 (4.2-72.7) months. All patients had received radical surgery, including pelvic lymphadenectomy, followed by paclitaxel plus carboplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Relative ne
OBJECTIVE: To assess whether a pH-balanced vaginal gel containing lactic acid is more effective than a placebo (lactate-free gel) in improving dyspareunia and sexual function among breast cancer survivors who were premenopausal at diagnosis and had dyspareunia after adjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS: In a single-center, double-blind, randomized trial, a pH-balanced gel or placebo was administered three times per week at bedtime as well as during sexual intercourse for 8 weeks. The primary outcome w
