Importance: The long-term safety of laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for locally advanced gastric cancer (AGC) remains uncertain given the lack of 5-year follow-up results. Objective: To compare the 5-year follow-up results in patients with clinically AGC enrolled in the Korean Laparoendoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery Study (KLASS)-02 randomized clinical trial who underwent laparoscopic or open distal gastrectomy. Design, Setting, and Participants: The KLASS-02, a multicenter randomized clinical

Abstract Background: Most patients with gastric cancer rapidly lose weight after gastrectomy. Therefore, analysis of the effect of body mass index (BMI) on patients with gastric cancer survival should include postoperative BMI and BMI loss and preoperative BMI. This retrospective cohort study analyzed the effect of three BMI variables and their interaction on long-term outcomes. Methods: Preoperative BMI analysis included 2,063 patients with gastric cancer who underwent curative gastrectomy betw

Both instruments performed the suturing tasks with no difference in duration. ArtiSential® can be mixed up with usual instruments. Surgeons can choose any device, but when articulation is needed, ArtiSential® could be an alternative choice to the robotic system.

BACKGROUND: The incidence and clinical presentation of internal hernia after gastrectomy have been changing in the minimally invasive surgery era. This study aimed to analyze the clinical features and risk factors for internal hernia after gastrectomy for gastric cancer. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed internal hernia after gastrectomy for gastric cancer in 6474 patients between January 2003 and December 2016 at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. Single-incision Laparoscopic Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer
Yoontaek Lee, Hyung‐Ho Kim
SJR Q1Journal of the Korean Gastric Cancer AssociationOA

The implementation of national cancer screening has increased the detection rates of early gastric cancer (EGC) in Korea. Since the successful introduction of laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer in the early 1990s, this technique has demonstrated improved short-term outcomes without compromising long-term oncologic results. It is associated with reduced pain, shorter hospitalization, reduced morbidity rates, better cosmetic outcomes, and equivalent mortality rates as those for open surge

Gastric cancer surgery using two instrument arms of a robotic surgical system can be performed by surgeons with expertise of RPLG. If this technique is successfully introduced in robotic surgery, it is expected to shorten the path to pure single-port robotic gastrectomy.

PURPOSE: Generally, adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) should be initiated as soon as possible after surgery to eradicate microscopic cancer cells. In this study, we investigated the effect of early AC on the survival of stage II/III gastric cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four hundred sixty patients who received AC (S-1 or XELOX) for pathologic stage II/III gastric cancer at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital between January 2008 and December 2014 were included. Long-term Outcomes of Laparoscopic Versus Open Transhiatal Approach for the Treatment of Esophagogastric Junction Cancer
Yoontaek Lee, Sa-Hong Min, Ki Bum Park, Young Suk Park, Sang-Hoon Ahn, Do Joong Park, Hyung‐Ho Kim
SJR Q1Journal of the Korean Gastric Cancer AssociationOA

PURPOSE: The laparoscopic transhiatal approach (LA) for adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEJ) is advantageous since it allows better visualization of the surgical field than the open approach (OA). We compared the surgical outcomes of the 2 approaches. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed 108 patients with AEJ who underwent transhiatal distal esophagectomy and gastrectomy with curative intent between 2003 and 2015. Surgical outcomes were reviewed using electronic medical records. RE
