Erythromycin ribosome methyltransferase gene (erm) sequences of Mycobacterium massiliense and Mycobacterium bolletii isolates were newly investigated. Forty nine strains of M. massiliense that were analyzed in the present study had a deleted erm(41). Due to a frame-shift mutation, large deletion, and truncated C-terminal region, the Erm(41) of M. massiliense had only 81 amino acids encoded by 246 nucleotides. Corresponding to these findings, most of the M. massiliense isolates (89.8%) were marke

Korean isolates of the Mycobacterium chelonae-Mycobacterium abscessus group, which had been isolated from two different hospitals in South Korea, were identified by PCR restriction analysis (PRA) and comparative sequence analysis of 16S rRNA genes, rpoB, and hsp65 to evaluate the proportion of four closely related species (M. chelonae, M. abscessus, M. massiliense, and M. bolletii). Of the 144 rapidly growing mycobacterial strains tested, 127 strains (88.2%) belonged to the M. chelonae-M. absces

Background: The TP53 mutation is one of the most frequently identified mutations in human cancers and is typically associated with a poor prognosis. However, there are conflicting findings regarding its impact. We aimed to clarify the clinical relevance of TP53 mutations across all breast cancer subtypes and treatments utilizing long-term follow-up data. Methods: We retrospectively identified the data of breast cancer patients who underwent TP53 mutation testing. Stratified log-rank tests and Co

Resolution of Nonmass Enhancement Extension to the Nipple at Breast MRI after Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy: Pathologic Response and Feasibility for Nipple-sparing Mastectomy
Soong June Bae, Sung Gwe Ahn, Eun Ji Park, Na Lae Eun, Jee Hung Kim, Jung Hwan Ji, Yoonwon Kook, Ji Soo Jang, Seung Ho Baek, Yoon Jin, Joon Jeong
SJR Q1Radiology

Background Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) is usually contraindicated in patients with nonmass enhancement (NME) extension to the nipple at breast MRI. However, little is known about the feasibility of NSM when NME extension to the nipple resolves after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Purpose To evaluate whether NSM is an appropriate surgical procedure for patients in whom NME extension to the nipple resolves after NAC. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 383 women with NME a

Differentiating HER2-low and HER2-zero tumors with 21-gene multigene assay in 2,295 HR + HER2- breast cancer: a retrospective analysis

SJR Q1Breast Cancer ResearchOA

BACKGROUND: HER2-positivity is an essential marker for therapeutic decisions, while HER2 expression is heterogenous. In recent years, there has been increasing recognition of a subgroup of breast cancer patients who have low levels of HER2 expression, also known as HER2-low because trastuzumab deruxtecan offers clinical benefit for patients with HER2-low metastatic breast cancer. Despite the growing interest in HER2-low breast cancer, there is limited research on how multigene assays can help di

Selective omission of sentinel lymph node biopsy in mastectomy for ductal carcinoma in situ: identifying eligible candidates

SJR Q1Breast Cancer ResearchOA

BACKGROUND: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is recommended for patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) undergoing mastectomy, given the concerns regarding upstaging and technical difficulties of post-mastectomy SLNB. However, this may lead to potential overtreatment, considering favorable prognosis and de-escalation trends in DCIS. Data regarding upstaging and axillary lymph node metastasis among these patients remain limited. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients with DCIS who u

In patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer, achievement of pathologic complete response (pCR) is a known prognostic indicator after neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NAST). We investigated the clinicopathological factors associated with pCR in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer treated with dual HER2-blockade. In this retrospective study, 348 patients with HER2-positive breast cancer who received NAST with docetaxel and carboplatin, combined with t

Background: It is unclear whether upfront surgery or neoadjuvant chemotherapy is appropriate for first treatment in hormone receptor (HR)-positive human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative breast cancer patients with 1-2 suspicious axillary lymph node (ALN) metastases on preoperative breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Method: We identified 282 patients with HR+HER2- breast cancer and 1-2 suspicious ALN metastases on baseline breast MRI (147 received upfront surgery; 135 rece

TPS618 Background: It is unclear whether the clinical benefit of cytotoxic adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) could be replaced by ovarian-function suppression (OFS) in premenopausal, estrogen receptor (ER)+HER2- breast cancer patients who have high clinical risk score and low genomic risk assessed by multigene assays. The TAILORx trial included a subgroup of premenopausal women with high clinical risk scores and midrange RS scores and found that CT, in addition to endocrine treatment (ET), offered clea

BACKGROUND: Immunochemotherapy with pembrolizumab has been integrated into clinical practice as part of the standard-of-care for non-metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) with high risk. We conducted a real-world study in TNBC patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy to compare pathologic complete response (pCR) rates relative to stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (sTIL) across different regimens: non-carboplatin, carboplatin-, and pembrolizumab-chemotherapy. Capsular contracture (CC) is a concerning issue for individuals undergoing postmastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT) with implant-based breast reconstruction. This study investigated whether the extent of CC and implant migration differs based on implant placement and the reconstruction stage. Insertion plane and stage of breast implants were investigated, and the presence and severe cases of CC and implant migration were analyzed. Among 195 participants, 83 were in the pre-pectoral group, and 112

BACKGROUND: For patients who achieve pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy with trastuzumab (T) and pertuzumab (P), the benefit of adding P to T remains uncertain. We compared survival outcomes according to the type of adjuvant anti-HER2 therapy in patients with pCR after chemotherapy with TP. METHOD: Patients who achieved pCR in both the breast and axilla after neoadjuvant chemotherapy with TP were included. Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and distant recurrence-free
