15Contrast-enhanced MR imaging provides information about disease activity of Takayasu's arteritis, which may be useful in the diagnosis and treatment of Takayasu's arteritis.
Early diagnosis and treatment of Takayasu arteritis is important in prevention of serious complications. Spin-echo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can depict early wall thickening of the aorta and cine MRI can evaluate aortic valve function. Significant enhancement in and around the aorta and carotid arteries is observed on postcontrast MR images in acute phase Takayasu arteritis. In the chronic phase, contrast enhancement in the aortic wall stronger than in the myocardium suggests activity of
BACKGROUND: Left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC) is an unclassified cardiomyopathy and there is no consensus on the diagnosis of LVNC. The aims of this study were to establish quantitative methods to diagnose LVNC using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and to suggest refined semi-quantitative methods to diagnose LVNC. METHODS: This retrospective study included 145 subjects with mild to severe trabeculation of the left ventricle myocardium [24 patients with isolated LVNC, 33 patients wit
Magnetic resonance is an effective modality in depicting TAPVCs.
BACKGROUND: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is thought to be associated with microvascular dysfunction. Adenosine stress-perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is a sensitive method for assessing microvascular perfusion abnormalities. We evaluated the prevalence and clinical characteristics of HCM patients with adenosine-induced perfusion defects on CMR. METHODS: Among 189 consecutive patients with HCM who underwent adenosine-stress perfusion CMR, 115 patients who had clinic
The ability of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to depict cardiovascular structures is especially useful in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD). While MR imaging techniques that focus on cardiac function or blood flow have not been used frequently in the evaluation of CHD, MR imaging has been useful in morphologic diagnosis of CHD. Spin-echo MR imaging can depict relevant morphologic features of most types of CHD. MR imaging provides important diagnostic information in evaluation of righ
Asymptomatic subjects may have fat in RV on CT. However, these subjects show no RV dysfunction or significant ECG-abnormalities consistent with the diagnosis of arrhythmogenic RV dysplasia.
BACKGROUND: Cardiac myxomas are sources of systemic embolism. Currently a large volume of chest CT and calcium-scoring CT scans are performed without contrast injection. PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic capability of non-contrast CT covering heart in detecting cardiac myxomas. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 36 non-contrast CT scans of 36 consecutive patients (16 men, 20 women) who underwent CT scan before surgery for left atrial myxomas and 20 patients without myxoma
