155-Hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (HMF) was hydrogenated to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF) (>99% yield) in various n-alcohol solvents using a Ru(OH)x/ZrO2 catalyst.
Antioxidants have become an important subject of study as an active ingredient for cosmetics and preservatives for food. We synthesized antioxidative peptide conjugates of hydroxycinnamic acids (HCAs) such as ferulic acid (FA), caffeic acid (CA), and sinapic acid (SA) by SPPS method. We measured their potential antioxidant properties by 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) scavenging test and lipid autoxidation inhibition test. When the antioxidative peptides, such as glutathione analog
5-Hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (HMF) was hydrogenated to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF) in various n-alcohol solvents with more than 99% yield using Ru(OH) x /ZrO2 catalyst. The BHMF in the same solvents was subsequently etherified to give 2,5-bis(alkoxymethyl)furans (BAMFs, four examples) as potential biodiesels with moderate to good yields using Amberlyst-15.
We isolated a Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutant, CH108, which shows hypersensitivity to cycloheximide, bleomycin, actinomycin D, 5-fluorouracil, and several other antibiotics. The mutant cells showed irregular shapes with swelling and were also hypersensitive to Zymolyase digestion. The mutant cell wall was swelled and twice as thick as the wild type cell wall. These defects were completely reversed by introduction of a genomic clone on a single-copy vector. Restriction analysis and sequencing sho
The multidelay parallel (MDP) technique is a multidelay logic simulation algorithm that uses no timing wheel, or any other event-sorting mechanism. Instead, wide bit-fields containing net-values for several different times are used to resolve out-of-order events. Bit-parallel operations are performed to simulate gates at the required times. The MDP technique was originally designed to be implemented in hardware, but the current software version of the algorithm has proven to be competitive with
The multi-delay parallel (MDP) technique is a multi-delay logic simulation algorithm that uses no event-sorting mechanism. Wide bit-fields and bit-parallel operations are used to resolve out-of-order events. Although the MDP technique was designed to be implemented in hardware, the software version has proven to be competitive with ordinary multi-delay simulation. Two versions of the MDP technique are presented: fixed alignment and variable alignment. The fixed alignment algorithm uses bit-field
Soft shell (SS) resins with a lightly or noncross-linked shell layer were prepared by reducing the amount of cross-linking agent, divinylbenzene (DVB), during seed suspension polymerization from polystyrene (PS) resin. These SS resins have a lower swelling volume than that produced by normal cross-linking. Despite its lower swelling, however, SS (10-00) resin, which consists of the 1% DVB-cross-linked core and the noncross-linked surface layer, showed higher efficiency in peptide synthesis compa
NIR-sensitive SERS nanoprobes are fabricated by J.-H. Kim, H.-Y. Lee, D. H. Jeong, Y.-S. Lee and co-workers, who form hollow plasmonic Au/Ag shells, assembled on the surface of a silica nanosphere. On page 3719, it is shown that the signals from these NIR SERS nanoprobes are detectable through deep tissues of up to 8 mm, and exhibit the capability for in vivo multiplex detection.
