How to Change Citation Formats?
Last updated: 2026-04-27·1 min read
Switch between citation formats like APA, MLA, and Chicago from the reference list or document settings. When you change the format, every citation already in the document updates automatically to match the new style, so no manual editing is required.
Where do you change the citation format?
There are two ways to change it:
- From the references list — Click the format settings next to the references list in the editor to change the citation format directly.
- From document settings — You can also change the format from the document settings in the editor's top header.
Do all existing citations update when you change the format?
Yes. When you change the format, every citation in your document is automatically updated to match the selected format. You don't need to manually edit them one by one.
Where do the citation styles come from?
Nubint AI uses citation styles from the Citation Style Language (CSL) project. Thousands of academic citation formats — including APA, MLA, Chicago, Vancouver, and Nature — are provided as open source through the CSL Style Repository and distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0) license.
